At the @ Cyber Cafe we would like to  enable your to do any PC task.  You can check your email, talk to and view friends and relatives with instant messengers, create a free email account, make cheap international phone calls using Skype, edit and print documents, create CDs/DVDs, send and receive files, research information on any number of subjects, purchase goods and services, make travel arrangements, plan routes, play lots of  different games, read online newspapers, fly round the world on Google Earth, listen to music, update your blog, check share prices, type up your CV, buy and sell on eBay and lots, lots more… 

We are always open to suggestions so if you think that we are missing a service whilst spending time with us please do not hesitate in giving us feedback.

 

Facilities:

What browsers do you have?
There is a choice of Internet Explorer, Firefox and chrome browsers on each computer.

Are there restrictions on what I can access?

In purchasing computer time customers agree not to use our computers in a way that might cause offence to others or infringe on copyright laws.

Can I print?

When using our computers you can print black A4 text sheets for 15p per sheet and A4  colour text for 30p per sheet.  We also cater for images and photo’s but as the ink used from picture to picture varies we quote on page and ink usage.  There is an A3 photo-printer at the Cyber Café also which may be used.  Prices are 30p per sheet for black text, 60p per sheet for colour text and again we can quote for images and photographic printing.

Can I scan and copy?

We have a scanner here on site that may be used for 50p per scan whilst you have purchased computer usage.  If you require us to scan for you then you will be charged at the hourly rate plus the price for scanning per document. 

We also have a high speed black photocopier within the building, black A4 copy’s are 15p per sheet and A3 copy’s are 30p per sheet.  If you want to use colour then again we will price according to ink usage.

Do you serve food and drink?

We have a vending machine serving snacks and a can fridge situated within the main computer area for your convenience.  We can also make you a nice hot cup of tea or coffee.

Do I need an email account?

To browse the Internet you do not need an email account, but if you want to send and  receive email or purchase goods and services online then you really need to have your own email account. We can assist in pushing you in the right direction when setting up your very own free email account.

 

Do I need to be a member?
No membership is required (but you can purchase one giving cheaper time options to  yourself if you are thinking of using us on a regular basis).  The @ Cyber Cafe caters for all ages and groups but does reserve the right to ban access to persons seen to be abusing our services.

Do I need to book in advance?
No booking is necessary.  Just turn up and you can almost always get a PC straight away.  If you plan to come in a party or group then booking would be advisable at peak times.

Can I use a USB memory stick?
Our computers have front, rear and top loading USB ports for customer use.  Both slow and fast USB devices are supported. 

Can I use my mobile phone?

Yes of course, but please respect that there are other users present so keep conversations to a decent level and content.

Can I save on to CD/DVD?

Our computers support read/write access to CD-R/CD-RW/DVD-R & DVD-RW discs under the control of Windows XP and Nero.

Can I download files to take away?
You can download files and save them either on a USB device or onto a CD/DVD

Can I use a floppy?
Yes our computers support floppy disks.

Do you have left-handed computers?

Our computers have a mouse that can be used either on the right or left of the keyboard, whichever is most convenient for you.

Does the Internet Cafe monitor customers?
We do not record customer's individual details, but for accounting and statistical purposes we do monitor the number of customers visiting and how long they stay.  To help maintain a safe and secure environment we operate IP cameras and we may record customer visits.

What computing facilities do you have?
Each customer has their own desk with a leather high back reclining chair with a computer running Windows XP, large LCD flat screen, keyboard, optical mouse, stereo headset with microphone, DVD-R/CDRW drive, floppy drive, card reader & USB ports.

Can I use a Messenger program?
You can use MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, AIM, IRC and Skype.

What computer games do you have?
You can play a full range of single, multi-player and online games here at the Cyber Café.  We have an all night LAN gaiming event every second Saturday but there is always some kind of gamer present.

Is it safe?
Every time one of our computers is shut down and restarted it is automatically reset to a known state with a fresh copy of Windows XP that, to the best of our knowledge, is safe to use. In addition our computers are protected in real time by anti-virus software. However you should still exercise caution when connected to the Internet particularly regarding phishing. Can I connect my laptop?

We support wired connections to our network. 

How do I access FTP?

At the Internet Explorer address bar enter the command ftp://username@servername 
where username is your ftp username and servername is your ftp servername.  When the password prompt box appears enter your ftp password.

Can I send files?
Yes you can send files using your email account or through a messenger service.

Where can I learn about computers?

To use an Internet Cafe you need to be familiar with using Microsoft Windows and a  keyboard and mouse.  Ask our staff about computer training courses.

Can you fix my home computer?
This is our bread and butter.  We offer a personal computer repair service and believe that we can fix or have a solution to 100% of computer problems. Please contact us for full details and prices of our repair service.  Whilst your machine is out of action why not come to the Cyber Café to check your email, instant message or game?

Can I do word processing?
You can use the latest Microsoft Office software on 2 of our machines and we have  OpenOffice installed on the rest of the machines . 

Can I do my CV here?
You can type up and print your Curriculum Vitae at the Cyber Café.  A good tip is to save your completed CV by emailing it to yourself as a file attachment. In this way you can always have a copy of your CV with you no matter where you maybe around the globe.

What about the disabled?

Access is at street level so we can easily accommodate people with disabilities.  We have made modifications to the interior of the building to make it more accessible for people with slight disabilities or impairments and always try and help where we can.  Unfortunately we don't have ground floor toilets but do have his and hers toilets on the first floor.

Are you run by the council?
No, the @ Cyber Café is independent and receives no public subsidy. We are owned and ran by a couple of local businessmen whose passion is computers, the internet and gaming.

Is the @ Cyber Cafe available for private hire?
Yes @ Cyber Café can be hired for an all-inclusive rate.

 

Email

At the @ Cyber Cafe you can send and receive Email.  Fast access to all email services including Hotmail, AOL, Yahoo, Freeserve, BT Connect, Tiscali, UEA, NUS, Bigpond, Gmail, Wanadoo and many others. You can view Acrobat, Word, Excel and PowerPoint attachments also.

How do I create a free webmail account?
If you don't have an email account then click on Hotmail, Yahoo or Gmail and you can create a free webmail email account that you can access from anywhere in the world.

Do I need a password?
All email accounts are protected by username and password - you need both to access you email. You set the password yourself when you create an email account.  You should keep your password secret. Change your password regularly.  A combination of letters and numbers makes for a good password.

Can I read my home emails in the Cyber Cafe?
Yes, you can send and receive emails as if you were at home using either webmail or POP3.  Obviously you will need to know what your username and password are to access your own account, so please don't shout at us for not knowing your details.

How do I access POP3?
You can create a free Yahoo or Gmail webmail account and then use it to connect to your home email account using Yahoo's free POP3 support. You will need to have with you the POP3 settings for your ISP which can be found in your home computer in Outlook or Outlook Express under menu item Tools / Accounts / Properties / Servers.

For your security, any personal details, account names and passwords you enter into the computers are automatically deleted at shutdown or restart.

Skype VoIP and Messengers

At the Cyber Café you can use MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger,AIM and Skype VoIP to make computer to computer voice calls for no extra charge.

You can also use the computers to make phone calls to regular telephones anywhere in the world using SkypeOut. This means calling anyone, anywhere in the world at local rates.

At the Cyber Cafe you will find MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, AIM and Skype VoIP already installed on the computers.  To start just double click on the icon on the desktop.

For your security, any personal details, account names and passwords you enter into the computers are automatically deleted at shutdown or restart.

My Office

When you visit the Cyber Cafe you can use us as your temporary office where you have access to broadband connected computers, messengers, Skype, office software and  photographic printers, full colour photocopier and a fax machine.  Get your work done in a peaceful and tranquil environment and stay as long as you like. 
On our computers we have the latest OpenOffice.org version 3 which is a multiplatform and multilingual office suite compatible with all other major office suites.  You can find the OpenOffice.org software on the Cyber Cafe computers by clicking on the Start button in the bottom left corner of the screen, clicking on All Programs and then selecting OpenOffice.org.

Printing
At the Cyber Cafe you can print on our printer from any of the computers by simply pressing the Print button on your screen or selecting File/Print.

If you need to print a large colour image, photo or any thing in A3 then please ask for assistance.
